Winter storage of boats and Boat canopies

Autumn fix - what to consider for the canopies?

Now it's that dreary time of year when it's time to take the boat out or prepare it for winter storage. Not only is it starting to get dark in both the morning and evening, but the cold reminds even the most sea-loving person that the time is probably ripe.

What should I do with the canopies?

Start by looking at the canopies in general. Depending on the age of the canopy, there are different recommendations on what you should do. For newer canopies, up to about 6 seasons, under normal use, washing with lukewarm water, a sponge and possibly a mild soap solution should suffice. Here you want to be kind to the factory impregnation, as it will wash off gradually if you use stronger agents. When your canopy is more than 6 seasons old, it may be time to start using washing and impregnating agents adapted for canopy fabrics. You can find all the products you need here.

Remember that windows need love too. It's best to use window polish on them.

Keep in mind that there is good care advice on our website, both from us and from Sunbrella, on how to best wash and impregnate the canopy yourself.

How can I repair and fix my Boat canopies ?

Did your canopy break during the season? Canopy fabric, depending on the quality, is normally a thick and stiff material that not all sewing machines can handle. We always recommend that you submit your canopy for repair to a boat canopy maker. Most require the canopy to be washed before submission. With us, we require that this is done in a professional canopy wash before we perform repairs for our staff, machines, and the well-being of the work environment. We do this with the help of our partners.

REMEMBER that canopy making is a seasonal occupation. Spring is a busy time for everyone and the right time to bring in the canopies for repair is in the fall and early winter.
